But the counterpunch from the South African opener Herschelle Gibbs provided a perfect start. He made 90 runs consuming 55 balls. With this belligerent batting from the opener, South Africa managed to get over the line leaving 14 balls to spare. In the process, SA lost two wickets. This big won demoralized the WI cause, and they did not proceed to the next round.

2016 WCT20 South Africa vs West Indies
In the last edition of the WCT20, West Indies at last beat South Africa. The match was quite important for West Indies. If they would have lost it, their disqualification was confirmed for the semi-final.
West Indies won, but they let the opposition in. In their 20 overs, South Africa only managed to post a very easy total on the board. 122/8 in 20 overs was not a big deal for teams like West Indies. Nevertheless, the WI made the match interesting and chased down the target in 19.4 overs. A close encounter but WI hold their nerves at the last moment and got over the line.
West Indies chased the target losing seven wickets. Marlon Samuels scored 43 runs facing 44 balls. But the important thing was that WI won the game in the end qualified for the Semi-Final. The best bowling figure from South Africa was Imran Tahir. The Spinner, who took two wickets for 13 runs.
Looking at the track records, South Africa seems a better team based on the records. But, West Indies is doing outstanding by beating all good sides in the cricket world. South Africa will fancy its chance against West Indies to qualify for the Semi-Final.
