India, one of the hot favorites. The Indian team is fully prepared for the coming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. They have got every resource in their bucket: the outstanding bowling attack, exceptional batting lineup, and probably the best fielding side in Asia. Legends of cricket and critics have kept India in the top four teams with a high chance of qualifying for the Semi-Final. But, your opinion can differ from mine. Let’s have a look at their past track record of the ICC T20 World Cups journey.
Who can forget the first edition of the T20 world cup 2007? South Africa hosted it. India played exceptionally well. The final played between the two traditional rivalries Pakistan and India. This was one best T20 World cup Finals. India posted a defendable target of 157/5 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan managed to score 152 all out.
It was a close game. In this nail-biting contest, India holds their nerves and eventually pulled back at the last minute. Misbah-Ul-Haq was outstanding, but his one careless shot cost Pakistan T20 World Cup.
In the T20 World Cup 2009, India qualified for the Super Eight stage but could not convert it into something substantial. India played 3 matches and lost all of them. In 2010, again, India failed to qualify for the Semi-Final of the world. They lost all the matches of the second round.
In the 2012 ICC T20 World Cup, they couldn’t progress further after reaching the second round. This time Pakistan’s better run rate caused India’s elimination.
ICC T20 World Cup 2016, India got very near once again. In 2014, India did well to get to the final two spots. They were just one step away from becoming the champions for the 2nd time, but Sri Lanka has other plans. India posted 130 on the board, which Sri Lanka chased with ease. But, in the Semi-Final posting, a massive total of 192/2 couldn’t hold the nerves at the last moment and let West Indies qualify for the Final.
