Strangely, the former Bangladesh opener has pulled out himself from the coming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Taking such a brave decision when the mega event is just around the corner that is scheduled in the UAE and Oman looks quite surprising. What is behind the scene? What are the factors that let him withdraw himself at the last moment? I hope you will be very curious to know about that.
He said I have no intention to retire from the shorter format, but he feels it will be unfair with those openers who have been doing very well for the session. Remember that Tamim Iqbal has not featured a single match for the last 15 games. But he also clearly said that he would not retire from the T20 format. The only reason for not playing the next T20 World Cup 2021 is to give the other openers a chance to prove themselves.
“I’m not retiring. I just won’t be available for this WC. And It’s fair cause the young openers have been playing for the last 15/16 T20Is. I can not just come in & take their place. It’d be unfair. And I believe they have more to offer than me,” Tamim Iqbal as per Naifu Kabir, a Bangladesh-based journalist.
He appealed media, not to WhatsApp or call, because he has taken the decision and will not reverse it.
“To the media, please no phone calls, no WhatsApp messages. I have taken my decision & I’ll stick to it. I always do what I feel is right & this is what I’ve felt this time. I’ll be available for other bilateral T20 series in the future. So see you all soon,”
Bangladesh has to appear in the qualifying round and win at least two matches to qualify for the super 12 games. Bangladesh will start its campaign against Scotland in Round 1.
