South Africa and England Have faced each other five times in the ICC T20 World Cup History from 2007 to 2016. Both the teams have played outstanding cricket in those matches. The result is mixed. It means both have success against each other. There was no match between these two teams in T20 World 2014 editions. So, let’s have a look at their records in the T20 World Cups.
Eng vs SA T20 World Cup 2007 Head to Head
The first T20 match was played between these two teams in Cape Town. England and South Africa displayed brilliant skills. These teams met each other for the first time in the maiden edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup. It was an important match for their qualification to the next round.
England won the toss and elected to bowl first. South Africa set a defendable total of 154 for the loss of 8 wickets. Albie Morkel scored 43 runs facing 20 deliveries. Stuart Broad 3 wickets in his four overs, giving away 37 runs, a touch expensive.
In reply, England only managed to score 135 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. It was not a challenging target, but South African bowlers defended it very well. Awais Shah was the top scorer. Head To Head 2009 Edition
In the 2009 editions, both England and South Africa were in Group E. In their first encounter with the group, both of them took on each other. England won the toss and decided to bat. They were bowled out for nelson on the board. 111/10 in 19.5 overs. Awais Shah was the top scorer with 38(33) runs. W Parnell took 3 wickets for 14 runs in 3.5 overs.
South Africa got over the line in 18.2 overs with eight balls to spare. In the process, South African lost 3 wickets. J. Kallis was scored 57 crucial runs to grab the victory for his team. Stuart Broad took one wicket for 14 runs. South Africa won the match by 7 wickets.
2010 SA vs Eng Head To Head
ICC T20 World Cup 2010 edition. South Africa took on England for an important match. The match was crucial for both the contenders. England won the toss and decided to set a target to take South Africa under pressure in this crucial match.
Batting first, England set a massive target of 168 for 7. You would think that 168 is a good total but can’t be a massive one. Well, looking at the pitch, the target proved a massive one. Kevin Petersen, with his 53 on 33 balls, got his team to a magnificent total. The spinner Johan Botha bowled splendidly well. He took two wickets for 15 runs in the entire four overs quota.
In reply, South Africa only managed to score 129 runs in 19 overs. JP Duminy showed some resistance by scoring 39 runs for 25 balls. Ryan Sidebottom took three wickets for 23 runs in his four-over spell. England won the match by 39 runs.
Head To Head 2014 England And South Africa
In 2014 once again engaged in a nail-biting clash. England won the toss and chose to field first. Hashim Amla provided the team with a good start. He scored 56 runs for 37 balls. SA lost their first wicket at 90 runs. After that, AB de Villiers made 69 runs with a strike rate of 246.42. This is how SA reached 196/5.
The second half was even thrilling. Till the last second, the last ball was delivered, no one could judge that who will be the winner of the match. T20 World Cup 2016 Edition
One of the high-scoring matches that were played in an ICC T20 World Cup Tournament. 2016 edition, South Africa came up with a new approach. England won the toss and elected to field. South Africa posted a huge total of 229 in their allotted 20 overs. Hashim was the top scorer of the team. He made 58 for 31 balls. Moin Ali took wickets.
At the halfway stage no one could even think that England will get anywhere near to this total. But Joe Root’s lightning-fast inning smoothen England’s way towards victory. His 44 balls’ 83 runs helped to get over the line. England achieved the target in 1.4 overs. Kyle Abbott took 3 wickets but he was expensive too.
