The current situation of India is forcing BCCI to think twice before taking any decision about hosting the scheduled T20 world cup 2021 in the country. India is facing a devastating 2nd wave of the COVID-19, making it almost impossible for the organizers to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The situation is helping UAE to host the Mega Event for the first time in history. The organizers were sensing the pandemic; that is why they had already announced a Backup Plan for the coming WC T20 World Cup. What is
the Backup Plan essential to know.
The Governing body already announced a plan B to shift the T20 World Cup 2021 to UAE if the present situation prevails and stops the hosting country from staging the twenty 20 world cup 2021. The interim Chief Geoff Allardice
said on Wednesday.
“We are certainly proceeding on the assumption that the event going ahead as planned.” But he clarified that India is scheduled to host the coming T20 World Cup, but the new severe hit of COVID-19 creates health
issues.
Notably, the postponement of IPL increases the chances of applying a Backup Plan, which makes UAE a strong contender staging the T20 World Cup for the first time.
The weakness of the IPL Buble has created so many questions in the mind of the organizers. ICC has already announced a team to visit the venues that have been short-listed for T20 World Cup. But due to flight cancellation,
teams could not see the grounds.
It is assumed that the T20 World Cup 2021 schedule will remain unchanged even if the Backup plans are implemented. The reason may be that the number of grounds is far less than in India.
BCCI has already short-listed nine venues that are going
to host the matches of the mega event. The event will be held in two stages. The first one is the qualifying round. The top two sides will qualify for the super 12 round, where they will face the top ten teams which have
already qualified.
It is too early to say that shifting one of the most significant cricket events to UAE is that we are still months away from commencing the mega event. But the current situation and postponement of IPL are the vital alarming
signs that might force the governing body to implement Plan B for the betterment of cricket and players.
